Explanation Price barometer

The price barometer is our tool for helping you to answer certain questions. Should self-produced rye be used as a feedstuff or should it be sold, or does it make sense to buy in rye for own feedstuff production? The historical market price performance, moreover, will provide you with indications as to whether it makes sense to store rye following the harvest and market it at a future date.
The price barometer reflects the performance of the market prices (excl. VAT) for fodder rye and fodder wheat, as well as bread-making rye and A-wheat, within the regions of the RYE BELT.

The price performance can be displayed for the last 4 weeks, 3 months and up to 12 months ago. The market prices are updated weekly and displayed above the graph.
In addition, the comparative value of rye in dairy cattle and pig feeding is displayed and updated weekly. In calculating the comparative value (cost-effectiveness according to Löhr), the value of rye is measured against wheat and post-extraction soya meal and two nutrients (MJ NEL or MJ ME) and usable raw protein or digestible lysine as well as their current market prices. All other ingredients and conditions are made the same for the calculation. The price of post-extraction soya meal is likewise listed, providing the basis for the calculation of the comparative value. This price is updated monthly.
The comparative value is the value at which a purchase or sale of the feedstuff makes sound economic sense when compared to the comparative feedstuffs and nutrients.

Alongside the weekly updated average market prices of fodder rye and fodder wheat, as well as bread-making rye and A-wheat, we also indicate the most recently published market prices from the main regions of the RYE BELT.
You can find these prices by clicking on the  symbol after the indicated market prices. This will open a new window that displays the converted market prices, the relevant delivery conditions and the dates of the publications in the main regions. This then provides you with an overview of the price levels of rye and wheat in the main regions of the RYE BELT.

Explanations on the comparative value (feed)

In determining the comparative values (cost-effectiveness according to Löhr), the value of feedstuffs is measured against two comparative feedstuffs and two nutrients as well as their current market prices. The determination is performed under conditions that are otherwise the same.

The comparative feedstuffs used are wheat, as an energy feedstuff, and post-extraction soya/ rapeseed meal as the protein feedstuff. The nutrient raw protein (nXP) or digestible lysine and Net Energy Lactation (MJ NEL) or Metabolisable Energy (MJ ME) are used for the calculation of the comparative values with cattle and pigs. The calculated comparative value is the value at which a purchase or sale of the feedstuff makes sound economic sense when compared to the comparative feedstuffs and nutrients. A feedstuff will be evaluated as having increasingly good value, the higher its comparative value is compared to the market value.
